Stockport Borough Conservatives have officially launched their Local Election Campaign with a key pledge to get a grip of the Council’s finances.
Local Election candidates were joined by Mary Robinson MP (MP for Cheadle), Paul Athans, (the prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Hazel Grove), and the Conservative candidate for Greater Manchester Mayor, Laura Evans to mark the formal launch of the campaign.
Local Conservatives are campaigning to:
- Freeze Council Tax,
- Re-establish a rail link between Stockport and our towns and district centres like Marple and Romiley,
- Protect our green spaces,
- Keep free parking at our parks and local high streets,
- Keep weekly green bin collections,
Member of Parliament for Cheadle, Mary Robinson MP said:
The Liberal Democrats have dragged their heels over producing a local plan, this has resulted in several Green Belt developments being ready to be signed off in Cheadle. This is totally unacceptable. We need Conservative representation on Stockport Council to hold the environment destroying Liberal Democrats to account.
Paul Athans, the prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Hazel Grove said:
When I speak to local people, they see that any investment in our borough is going into the centre of Stockport. Hazel Grove constituency is being left behind by the Liberal Democrats and Labour.
We need Conservatives on Stockport Council to provide a competent, pragmatic, and fiscally responsible voice. Voters here can’t afford another year of mismanagement from this Council.
As we near the local elections on Thursday 2nd May, the choice is clear. A vote for the Conservatives is a vote for action, delivery, and visibility. People deserve more, which is why Stockport Borough Conservatives are continuing to deliver for people across our area.
Greater Manchester Mayoral Candidate, Laura Evans said:
Labour are taking Stockport for granted. We need a Mayor for a GREATER Manchester, not the Mayor for the City Centre.
Local Council Candidate for Norbury and Woodsmoor, Oliver Johnstone said:
Under the Liberal Democrats, we pay the highest Council Tax in Greater Manchester – yet all we hear from them are plans to charge us more but deliver less.
A vote for your local Conservative candidate will be a vote to:
- Freeze council tax,
- Keep weekly green bin collections,
- Keep free parking at our local shops and parks,
- Deliver a local plan that protects our green spaces,
- Send a message to the Liberal Democrat Council that we’re sick of being taken for granted by the Liberal Democrats and Labour.
Our team are out, day and night, to hear the concerns of local people. Conservatives deliver, and we will continue to work hard to represent everyone in the Stockport Borough.
